Weekly People You Should Know, September 4

September 3, 2009

In the industry, it can be a challenge to stretch your boundaries, learn your history and expand your horizons. Give us 15 minutes, and we’ll do it a week at a time.

  • Game designer of the week – Nasir Gebelli. Incredibly influential and an inspiration to some of today’s most prominent designers.
  • Traditional Artist of the week – Kurt Schwitters. An artist who worked somewhere between design and art.
  • Game artist of the week – George Opperman. You know him. You totally know him.

A public service of @bbrathwaite, @jofsharp and @ChrisA9.

I’d never heard of Gebelli before, thanks for that! Nice to see another Iranian-American game developer, particularly one who worked on so many influential Japanese (!) games!

Yes, I was surprised to see an Iranian-American game designer, too. I’m not surprised, though. There’s a large Iranian-American community in my city, many of them working for big tech companies.

This is a very nice feature, Brenda. Not enough people get credit like this. Maybe there should be an ivgdb (international video game database)?

    I heart Nasir.

    Cyberstrike FTW.
