Q & A on Train

May 2, 2009

In the last couple days, I’ve been asked a lot of questions and been presented with a variety of ideas about Train.

Q: [many questions fit here]

A: There is more than one way approach Train. In placing it in the series, The Mechanic is the Message, I quite literally mean that its mechanics create the meaning in conjunction with the participants.

Q: Are you going to publish it?

A: It is “published.” I am making only one game.

Train is going to be at the Game Education Summit in June.

“I quite literally mean that its mechanics create the meaning in conjunction with the participants.”

Absolutely they do, and always have done. Game mechanics are metaphoric representations of basic relationships and the thematic context presented by the textual components of the game help the players find meaning within those metaphors.
