Game Vets and American Greetings

December 13, 2007

Moderately off topic here, but it’s crazy good news, so I can’t help it…

Marvelous Mommies, a greeting card company I founded with two other game industry folks while on maternity leave just signed a deal with American Greetings. The company is composed of me, Kelly Minton, formerly of Game Table Online, and artist Sean Wang. Sean and I worked together on a couple titles, and he’s now doing the freelance thing as well as a couple comics, Runners and Meltdown.

Signing this deal is the game development equivalent of a signing a deal with a really big publisher, except that said publisher is being bombarded by thousands of random individuals daily who have a “great idea for a card that’s never been done before” and, unlike the game industry, they include bad poetry to prove it. In the game industry we just get bombarded by the ideas.

If you’re surprised reading this (i.e. “Did she really say greeting cards?”), add a +10 modifier, and you’re still not close to how much it surprises me.

Wow, that is really impressive! Great work and I commend the dedication you all pushed out of yourselves for this opportunity. I’ll keep an eye out for some cards, because if they are anything like the one you just showed, I’m in for some good laughs this holiday season. >:0D

Thanks, David. From an art perspective, I am continuously amazed at Sean’s ability to have two totally different artistic styles. Take a look at his site and compare the style of Meltdown with Marvelous Mommies. The guy has amazing range. 🙂

You are definitely right there. The way he molds his vision is pretty darn cool. He’s got one heck of a talent.

Just look at these elves! Oye! The beauty.
